5 Painting Service Myths Debunked

It's time to update your house. One of the ways you can impact the look and feel of your house is a different splash of color. Whether you are looking at an interior or exterior change, painting can bring a completely different look to your home.

It might be tempting to grab a brush and do the painting yourself. We've all done it at one time or another. But it only takes one little mistake to put your project in danger of looking unprofessional.

Instead of going at it yourself, consider hiring a professional paint service for homes. This can be an unpopular choice because of all the misconceptions about professional painting services, so let's debunk those myths. Then you can comfortably look into the option and let them do the work.

Myth 1: Painting services are expensive

While professional services are in business to make money, like any other business, their services usually aren't very expensive. When looking for a painting service, seek quotes from several companies. Watch for any quotes that come in high or low. The high ones may be overpriced. The low ones may use cheap paint and brushes resulting in poor quality paint jobs. Look for a quote that is in the middle and choose one that fits into your budget.

Myth 2: DIY saves you tons of money

It makes sense that doing it yourself will save you money, but after all your expenses, it may not save you as much as you think. Take into account all the supplies you will need, paint, brushes, ladders, rollers, tape, and plastic coverings. The cost of all these materials adds up. If you add in your "time" as a cost, it may end up costing you more, as you are not as experienced as the company you can hire. Go spend some time with your family or friends, and leave the painting to the professionals.

Myth 3: Buying materials yourself can save money

Cutting costs is always a priority when doing home improvement projects. An easy solution is to buy the materials yourself and hire someone to do the work. But does it really save you money and is it the best idea? Professional painters can access paints that are not available to the public. The paints are more durable, have more vibrant pigments, come with a guarantee, and are reasonably priced for the painter buying them. They also often come with some kind of quality guarantee. When you buy your own paint, you could get a defective paint or one that doesn't dry well, leaving streaks. You risk it peeling off the wall quicker than professional paint, and there is no guarantee for repainting. It’s not worth the time or effort for the small amount of money you might save.

Myth 4: Professionals leave a mess for you to clean up

Painting is messy. Cleanup is involved. Most professional painters will clean up their mess when they leave. They will also probably make less of a mess than you would make if you do it yourself since they have more experience. Check with the service you hire to be sure they clean up after themselves.

Myth 5: All paint services for homes are the same

All professional painters paint well, certainly, but just like doctors have specialties, so do some paint companies. Make sure the company you hire is qualified for the job you need done (i.e. interior, exterior, deck painting). You can ask for references if you are unsure. Check to be sure they can handle every aspect of your job, so you only have to hire one crew.

Now that we've debunked some of these simple myths, hire yourself a painting service, and enjoy the day!
